When Merry Noel came into rescue from a hoarding situation on November 26th, she was so overweight that we had no idea she was pregnant until she was suddenly not alone in her crate. We had a rocky start at first as she was very confused and scared, but she has come to trust her foster family. Merry took excellent care of her single puppy and when the need arose, she adopted 3 other puppies and cared for and fed them as well. Her dedication to caring for those 4 puppies has truly been extraordinary and we encourage you to watch the video at the bottom of this page to learn the whole story.

Merry is estimated to be about 5 years old. She is a tweenie red female, weighing in around 13 pounds-- down from around 18 pounds. Merry is looking for a very special home: patience, understanding, no children, and very few to no visitors. Once Merry knows you and trusts you, she is the sweetest, gentlest dog who loves to cuddle and be loved on. She can be very goofy and silly; rolling around on the floor, making little pig noises! She is good with other dachshunds in the home, but she would love and prefer to be an only dog. She loves toys and will stash them all over the house and carry them around all over the place-- she rarely destroys them and is fairly protective of them. Merry is excellent in the bath and with nail trims. She is working hard on her house training. That said, when Merry first meets people, she is unpredictable and will bite at ankles and hands. We have been working with her on these behaviors and she is showing a lot of improvement! Merry's behaviors can all be prevented if you are proactive, but we also believe that with love and time Merry will come to understand that people are safe.

Diamond Dachshund Rescue of Texas is a non-profit 501(c)(3) volunteer organization with focus on rescue and adoption of pure breed Dachshunds.  All dogs are fully vetted and housed on private property.  Meetings are scheduled upon adoption approval.  Thank you for your continued support to the rescue and shelter communities!  Opt to Adopt!
