Meet Zara.  This princess of a dachshund was found as a stray in San Antonio.

Zara starts out very shy when she first meets someone.  She is vocal about it, but warms up quickly and will want cuddles.  She is scared of unknown noises and takes a while to learn "the sounds of the house".  She is a great cuddler and will burrow under the covers in the big bed - she's perfect for these cold nights to keep you warm! 

She loves toys and squeakers.  Her job isn't to destroy them, it is to squeak them, carry them around, and play fetch with them!  She also loves rocks - yes, rocks!  She will carefully choose a rock, pick it up, put it down, scratch at it with her feet and hike it behind her.  Then she circles around, scratches at it for a bit, and hikes it again.  You have to check her mouth before coming back in, otherwise you will end up with a rock garden inside!  It is truly the silliest, sweetest thing to watch!

She does well with dogs of all sizes and loves to play tag with her foster kitty sister.  They even cuddle together.  She has done well on a leash but could use some more practice.  She uses stairs to get on the couch and onto the bed.  She gives kisses and loves to be cuddled and pet.

She will make a wonderful companion.  She really wants to be where her human is at all times.  While she will cuddle in a dog bed close to you, her preferred place is in your lap!  She likes to travel in the car - she does well in a doggy seat.  She is house trained and hasn't had any accidents.

Zara is a wonderful spunky little girl with lots of personality!

Diamond Dachshund Rescue of Texas is a non-profit 501(c)(3) volunteer organization with focus on rescue and adoption of pure breed Dachshunds.  All dogs are fully vetted and housed on private property.  Meetings are scheduled upon adoption approval.  Thank you for your continued support to the rescue and shelter communities!  Opt to Adopt!
