About Oscar our Special Boy | |
|
oscar - SPECIAL NEEDS - This little guy needs & deserves the very best of happy & loving homes! He's a beautiful little red shorthaired boy with soft satiny fur. His story is difficult to hear, but needs to be shared so that we can help him find the home of his dreams. Oscar has lost part of his tail & has some bb's in his hide from a not-so-happy life & cruel treatment, in addition, he was apparently hit or run over by a car & has sustained permanent damage that is irreparable. His right hind femur was broken, not given proper health care, the leg has not healed properly, it's amazing this dog can walk. His pelvis was fractured, & he has site specific paralysis to his tail (which cannot wag), & to his anal area (he has minimal if any, control over bowel movements). Oscar was treated for heartworms, & is neutered. It is suspected that he has been sexually abused. He is only 3 years old, weighs 12 pounds, & is such a happy little guy, that he DESERVES a second chance with a family that will love him despite his handicaps & that will show him the kind of loving home that he has never had. Oscar can walk just fine w/ a limp, & he can run like the wind. He's a handsome little guy & so trusting, sweet, very loving, and snuggly. He has adjusted amazingly well to his handicaps & I can tell he is trying hard to regain control of his bowels, he rarely has accidents in the house & lets me know when he wants to go outside. He's good w/ kids as young as six, NO CATS. Oscar continues to amaze me. He's such a happy, kissy, lap loving boy with a wonderful outlook on life. Nothing handicapped about his personality, and he can run, walk and jump like any normal dog! UPDATE 09/12/04 - Oscar is our very own little star! He was featured on KMOL News 4 story about animal abuse and the animal cruelty laws in effect in Texas. While his story garnered several phone calls, sadly, no one has followed through with inquiries about adopting this precious boy. He needs a home and he truly deserves a good, happy, safe, and healthy home, please consider making this fella the newest addition to your family! Update 4/13/05 Oscar is still waiting for that forever home. He is healthy, happy and snuggly! He deserves a GREAT home who can understand and not be bothered by his lack of anal control. he's truly a wonderful little man. He's been in rescue now over a year. Update 10/15/05 Oscar is his usual wonderful self, just waiting for that special home to find him and adopt him. Marley and Oscar are adopted together so that they can enjoy the company of another doxie friend. Marley is so close to perfect, and Oscar was horribly, terribly abused. Our precious Oscar stayed with us for 3 years before he was finally adopted with all his faults and problems. He had no clue he was handicapped and his personality was amazingly forgiving after the sexual abuse, bb's, broken bones, neurological damage to his tail and anal spincter, plus heartworm treatment! He is unable to control his bowel movements, but a doggie diaper or pants and some monitoring is all that's needed. I asked Oscar to forgive humans for the cruel treatment he endured before being sent to the pound to be euthanized, and I promised him that he'd never ever again be hurt or injured - His new people also gave him that promise. He lives a long ways a way from me now, and I miss him terribly - Oscar and Marley now live in Odessa, but I hope to see them at the reunions! Texas adoption or foster applications only please.
9.16.07 OSCAR is back! {SPECIAL NEEDS} Oscar and girlfriend, MARLEY, had to come back to rescue due to the health problems of their adopted people. Some of you may remember Oscar, he was the little fellow that was sexually molested by a teenager, his tail is broken and his right hind leg was damaged. The nerve damage due to the tail break caused him to not be able to control his spincter, and he limps, but I can't say enough about this wonderful dog's ability to forgive, forge on, and continue to love unconditionally! Oscar is our new "little fat man", as he was well loved and overfed in his previous home, as is little Marley. Oscar is about 6 years old now, a red male, altered, chipped, current on shots, fecal and HW negative, on preventative. His girlfriend Marley is also spayed, current on shots, fecal and HW neg. She's a chunky but spunky and VERY sweet natured red short haired lady who is about 7 years old. Please consider adopting these two, they SO deserve a happy, loving, permanent family to adore and a yard to dig in. These dogs are VERY special!!! Update 11.28,07 Oscar and Marley will be split up and adopted as singles. See Marley's own description for more information on her. 3.09,08 Permanent Foster Care Placement
12.14.08 Oscar 2- SPECIAL NEEDS - Needs FOREVER FOSTER HOME - Our very Beloved Oscar is sadly back with us in rescue. While we adore him and love him immensely, it's just not fair what life has done to him - what people have done to him. He's now about 6 and a half years old, he was two when he came to us. He's a handsome red dapple fella about 12-13 pounds. I normally try to not dwell on sad cases, and emphasize the good happy stories, but this one tugs at my heart til I want to cry. So will you. Oscar first joined us at 2 years of age, he was dumped at kill shelter in south Texas, after being horribly sexually abused by a sick teenager. Due to the abuse, his rear end was damaged and he has no spincter control, his tail is broken so it can't wag when he's happy, the nerves are completely severed. He had bb's in his leg and his knee shattered during the trauma. He can walk on it as all the tendons, muscles and cartilage reformed around the break. He limps, but is otherwise completely and absolutely fine! His personality, his willingness and ability to forgive humans for the unthinkable abuse he's suffered is a true testament to this breed's loyalty, ability to love, and forgive. He's fully vetted. He's been back in rescue twice through no fault of his own. No more temporary homes for Oscar. We are dedicated to finding him the absolute best, permanent home for the rest of his life so he won't be homeless or abused ever again. 11.27.09 YEA!!! Oscar has found a home with a wonderful lady in Indiana. Happy Home Oscar! PLEASE VISIT OUR WEBSITE WWW.DDRTX.ORG SOON AND COMPLETE AN ADOPTION APPLICATION.
