Dinky Dory came to DDRTX from an animal control facility where she was listed as ‘injured’ with a right hind leg problem.  Xrays show that this tiny little 7 #, black and tan wire haired cutie that may have a bit of yorkie in her lineage, had been run over by a vehicle a couple months prior to ending up at animal control.  She has 11 fractures of her pelvis, both hips, femur, heel bone (hock), both tibias and both fibulas!  Strict crate rest for the bones to heal back together, and one surgery to remove bone fragments, plus some creative ligament suturing, and this little one is starting to walk on at least one back leg. Her right leg may not heal properly and she may lose the ability to walk correctly. A portion of the heel bone was shattered that the ligament for her ‘heel’ or ‘hock’ attaches to, causing a condition commonly called ‘dropped hock’. Depending on how she recovers, she may require additional surgery in her future to set the hock joint with hardware to lock it in place to provide stability. At this time, since she’s so young and amazingly overcoming all the other breaks, the vet recommended the creative suturing to see if he could create some additional stability first. Despite all the above, Dinky is adorable, loving, kissy, playful and energetic!  Just trying to keep her still and confined is a challenge! She is piddle pad trained, loves to play, enjoys lap time and kisses. She’s so little that you can take her almost anywhere in a sling or doggie bag! If you can relate to her injuries and strength of character to overcome adversity, please consider adopting Dinky Dory Dorkie Doggie!

UPDATE: Dee Dee is healing well, she’s still very weak in her hind legs and hips. The surgery to reattach her ligaments has held so far, so she’s not hock-walking.  She can run, walk, play with the other dogs.  She may tire easily due to everything she has been through however, it doesn't stop her from being active.  Of course she'll need to be watched so she doesn't play too rough.  She is now ready to find a home of  her own.
